Donald Moore was no stranger to the arts in his early years, growing up in the small town of Kent, Ohio, home of Kent State University. His parents surprised him at the age of ten with a keyboard and with the guidance of his Grandmother, he quickly learned how to play all kinds of music. No doubt he became popular on the entertainment circuit performing at local restaurants and special events. He was awarded a Kent State University Music Scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Organ Performance and a Master of Arts in Teaching Degree. The next many years were spent in a Cleveland, Ohio suburb as a middle school choral music teacher. But under the encouragement of Kent State Music Professor and composer Richard Warner, Moore went after his passion for composing and arranging music. Not an easy road to pursue but he kept at it despite numerous rejections. Finally a letter came in the mail congratulating him on the publishing of an arrangement of the Christmas song Deck The Hall. Soon to follow would be numerous music publishers requesting arrangements. Now over 800 published choral arrangements and twelve music education books strong, his talents have been recognized over and over by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP PLUS Composers Award (ASCAP), and Kent State University College of the Arts recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Alumni Award.
But music is not the only activity in his life. Mr. Moore for the past twenty plus years has maintained a championship midget auto race car team. Mr. Moore’s race cars can be seen competing on dirt track ovals throughout the Midwest.
